Erik Bouck - Pelican Coolers Ambassador

Erik Bouck, born and raised in Sarasota, FL, grew up skimboarding, hanging out at drum circles, and fishing every day. He participated in both the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Boy Scouts of America, where he rose to the rank of Star Scout. A low voltage technician by trade, Erik learned his trade from a young age and has years of experience already at the age of twenty-three. Outside of work, Erik enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and family & friends. He also enjoys fishing, photography, editing videos, and being outdoors.
A lot of your content is based around your job, can you explain what you do?
I am a low voltage technician. This means that I program, install, and troubleshoot anything low voltage in a commercial and residential environment, like installing surveillance & automation, hanging TVs & speakers, running & terminating wiring, and networking. A big part of what I do is climb in the tightest, highest and sketchiest places you could imagine to get the job done and I love it! My nickname at work is the attic snook because I'm known to finagle through some very unpleasant and uncomfortable environments to get a wire where it needs to be while being oddly positive about it.
How does making content for social media change your approach to your work?
This makes me want to raise my standard for work even more so. It pushes me to compete with work from others from all around the world. Some things that I have to do at work really do suck, but social media enables me to put a positive spin on what I do. People contact me on social media asking for advice quite a bit and it makes me feel pretty amazing to help people. I have had a couple different people tell me they began a low voltage career which is pretty crazy to me but it inspires me even more. Social media also may contribute to my love for buying tools—I always just tell myself that I need it to do a review and it's pretty fun to put products to the maximum test.

What keeps you coming to work every day?
I take every day as a challenge and strive to be the Tom Brady/Michael Jordan of LV techs. I also get very excited when I get to do commercial work because it's my favorite. I look forward to jobs where people call me because others said it wasn't possible, because I know that there is always a way. When I solve something that was incredibly difficult, I get a great feeling of gratification and feel like I'm on top of the world.
What advice do you have for folks who are interested in your line of work?
Some advice that I would offer would have to be that you cannot learn everything overnight. To be amazing at something you have to become obsessed with it and want to be greater than anyone else at it. Stay on top of the newest technology and learn as much as you can in your spare time. The most important thing I can offer is to just think. Sometimes it really seems like there is no answer or possible way of doing something. But there is ALWAYS a way, you just have to find it.
How do you like to relax when you are not at work?
When I'm not at work I love to fish, take on projects around my house, drink good craft beer, surround myself with my friends and family, and most importantly spend time with my awesome wife. I love spending time with our pets, which include our puppy, cats, and rabbits. Did I mention that I love to fish? I have loved fishing since I was a little kid and have almost as much tackle as I do tools! I love being outdoors and having fires!
